Little Things

Lyrics

i bleach the sky
every night
loaded on wrong
and further from right
spinning around
two howling moons
cause they’re always there
whatever i do

the river is loaded
i’ve been there today
took it some questions
she does me again
i’d die in your arms
if you were dead too
here comes a lie
we will always be true

going up
when coming down
scratch away way way way way

it’s the little things that kill
tearing at my brains again
oh, the little things that kill
the little things that kill

bigger you give
bigger you get
we’re boss at denial
but best at forget
the cupboard is empty
we really need food
summer is winter
and you always knew

little things that kill
tearing at my brains again
oh, the little, little….

i touch your mouth
my willy is food
addicted to love
i’m addicted to fools, shit
i kill you once
i kill you again
we’re starving and crude
welcome my friends to the

little things that kill
tearing at my brains again
oh, the little things that kill
tearing at my brains again
oh, the little, little…..

here come the little
here come the little, ah

little things that kill
you

Band Thoughts:

‘Raindogs howl for the centuries’ is my two favourite people, Tom Waits [and his album Raindogs] and Allen Ginsberg [whose seminal poem Howl was the anthem of the Beat Generation]. I suppose the song is about youth culture – or just culture. Something that people search for or try for. And just how short you can fall and the mistakes you can make.’ – Gavin Rossdale

“I don’t really have a favorite song but “BONE DRIVEN” is up there along with “LITTLE THINGS”. “- Guy ‘Bone’ Johnson

“‘Everything Zen’ and ‘Little Things’ are one style–very much in the Keith Moon vein. I wanted open cymbal sounds.”- Robin Goodridge

interviewer: People make much of Bush’s sonic resemblance to Nirvana, but I hear a songwriting influence as well?

-”Well, it’s very limited. I would say it’s only on one track particularly off Sixteen Stone, which would be “Little Things.” Because you’ve got one chord progression and a kind of different rhythm in the chorus, which is the same effect you get with Nirvana. But I mean, if you listen to “Smells like Teen Spirit” and then listen to [Pixies'] “Debaser” [sings riff], it’s the same thing.”- Gavin Rossdale

“‘Little Things’ was the only grunge-esque song we made on the first album. Songs with slide guitars and double basslines – what other grunge act has done that? Let me think, none…..I fuck one sheep, you know? One grunge moment and people are still asking about it. We decided the best way to deal with it was to keep going and outlive the accusations and distrust, just keep being good.”- Gavin Rossdale

“I have to be honest in saying that I wasn’t entirely familiar with their catalog. I had known some of their songs and they said, “Come down and meet us and if we get a vibe from you we’ll fly you to Philadelphia.” So I had to go for a personal audition with a Rolley bag and then I saw them play at the Roseland Ballroom. Then they were like, “OK, let’s get on a plane” and I said, “Cool. What’s going on?” We flew to the soundcheck the next day in Philadelphia and they’re like, “I guess we should play with you if you’re gonna be in the band. Why don’t you play ‘Little Things’?” And I’m like, “Why in the hell do they want me to play a jazz standard?” I thought they were asking me to play a jazz standard with them—I didn’t realize that was the name of one of their biggest songs! So, it was a pretty funny experience and I said, “Why don’t I get your records and you tell me what songs you want me to play and I’ll go back to the hotel room and I’ll learn ‘em.” From then on it was totally cool. It was bit awkward because Nigel [Pulsford, the guitarist Traynor was replacing] was there and it was like that thing of guitar players don’t like other guitar players. I love other guitar players but in that position it’s understandable.”-Chris Traynor

Staff Thoughts:

“What can I say about a man who can sneak in a lyric about a blow job & still get a g rating.”- Laura

“This song is also about death. It’s one of Bush’s best..”-Brandyn
